New to Kansas?
It’s the 15th largest state in the country with 82, 277 square miles. That’s a lot of space to wander in! It’s 417 miles from east to west and 211 miles from north to south. It is literally the “wide open spaces” you’ve heard about in the West.
Kansas tourism is usually broken up into six areas, which will make sense when you see them. Kansas is essentially a big rectangle, so it’s easy to divide it up into Northeast, North Central, Northwest, Southeast (which is where we live), South Central, and Southwest. Because Kansas is such a large state area wise, it helps with travel planning to know what part of the state any particular attraction or event is in.
